LegalVision’s Editorial Guidelines

At LegalVision, we are committed to making the law accessible to all businesses and helping to ensure businesses are legally compliant.

Established in 2012, LegalVision is a commercial law firm. Our website has become a valued legal information resource for businesses in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and is the most visited law firm website in Australasia.

Our articles are not your typical law firm content. We are not afraid to give away our knowledge if it means making it easier for business owners to do their jobs and grow their businesses. So, you will not find long-winded court case summaries or articles filled with legal terms, Latin maxims and legislation.

Instead, you will find practical, easy-to-understand articles written by our legally-trained subject matter experts, who are experienced at working with businesses and understand the challenges they face on a daily basis. Not only is our content accessible, but you also can trust it to be accurate, too, as our articles undergo a thorough editorial process to ensure it is of the highest standard.

Our in-house team creates our content based on the following five criteria:

1. Providing practical guidance

Our articles are designed to provide practical guidance to people in business. All article topics come from business owner and manager queries or are based on our research and experience with people in these roles.

These roles may include startup founders, owners or managers of small to medium-sized businesses, franchise owners and managers within enterprise organisations. Depending on their business’ stage of development, they may need guidance on everything from capital raising and business structure to managing underperforming employees and advertising compliance.

Our vast database of articles, publications and business tools covers a broad range of topics designed to assist business owners with practical guidance, no matter what challenges they face.

2. Ensuring accessibility

Our content must be accessible; if the reader cannot understand what we are saying, then the article will be useless to them. We also address our readers in a warm and friendly tone, as if we are conversing with them.

To this end, our subject matter experts explain the topic to the reader in plain English using inclusive language. If they use a legal term, they define it in layman’s terms. For instance, if they are explaining the court process for a dispute, they will explain both the court’s terminology and the process.

Each article also provides practical examples and ends with key takeaways, summarising the lessons learned. This way, when someone reads our article, they come away with a clear answer to the question being addressed by the article.

3. Trustworthy and accurate

Our writers are subject matter experts. They are legally qualified and have experience practising the law, including providing client advice.

When a lawyer joins our team, they receive a thorough content induction and ongoing training that lasts several months. This includes training in how to write in our practical, plain English style, using active voice. Experienced senior lawyers review their articles to ensure the content is legally accurate.

4. Continual monitoring and updating

While our articles are designed to be evergreen, our content is revisited regularly, with most articles updated within 18 months of being published or sooner if we become aware of a change to the law.

When a significant law change affects businesses, we write a new article specifically to explain what the changes mean to business owners and managers and what actions they need to take to address them.

If we receive feedback on an article, we address it immediately.

5. High-quality standards

In addition to our content being written by subject matter experts, our editorial team are legally qualified or in the process of undertaking a law degree. This assists with fact-checking and ensuring our content is legally accurate.

Each editor undergoes rigorous training and is responsible for ensuring the content is written in plain English and active voice, provides practical guidance and examples, and is consistent in quality and style. Every single article is reviewed, edited and undergoes our quality process before it is published.

Continuous Improvement

We are passionate about making life easier for business owners and managers, ensuring they are able to remain legally compliant while driving their businesses’ success. Our content plays an important role in achieving this goal, and our editorial processes are designed to ensure our content is as relevant, accessible and accurate as possible.
