Starting from the upcoming tax year, the government has announced sweeping proposals to increase its tax revenue by \u00a340 billion. Specifically, over half of this will be generated by the proposed changes to <a href=\"https:\/\/legalvision.co.uk\/startups\/four-sme-taxes\/\">employer national insurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the government decides its approach to taxation, costs and any proposed spending, you must be prepared to reconsider how the budget will impact your:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>operating costs;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>day-to-day spending; and&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>recruiting.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the budget, the government also revealed its new <a href=\"https:\/\/legalvision.co.uk\/employment\/labours-new-workers-rights-bill\/\">Workers\u2019 Rights Bill<\/a>, focusing on overhauling the employment landscape.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Increase in Employer National Insurance Contributions&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From April 2025, the amount of employer national insurance you will be required to pay will increase from 13.8% to 15%. This increase is set to cost employers around \u00a3900 more per employee, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ifs.org.uk\/data-items\/increase-employer-national-insurance-contributions-employee-earnings-2025-26\">IFS<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the lower earnings threshold is set to decrease, meaning that the earnings level at which you start paying insurance will be reduced from the current rate of \u00a39,100 to \u00a35,000.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div  class=\"box box--icon box--info\">\n    <p>The government has also increased the Employment Allowance from \u00a35,000 to \u00a310,000 and removed the \u00a3100,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/legalvision.co.uk\/ecommerce-online-business\/eligible-employment-allowance\/\">Employment Allowance<\/a> eligibility threshold to apply to all eligible employers.
