One of the critical rules to follow is to provide users with comprehensive information about the use of cookies, most commonly presented in a \u2018cookie policy\u2019. This article will explain what cookies are and what a cookie policy is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a Cookie?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user\u2019s device, such as their computer, phone or tablet. Cookies allow businesses to identify individual users and store certain information about them. For example, cookies can store information about a user\u2019s login details or preferences. <a href=\"https:\/\/legalvision.co.uk\/data-privacy-it\/legalities-reject-all-cookies\/\">Cookies<\/a> are also often used for targeting and advertising purposes, which can be based on the browser history of a particular user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are various types of cookies. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>essential or strictly necessary cookies;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>performance or analytical cookies;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>functionality cookies; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>targeting or advertising cookies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Businesses can use cookies in multiple ways.
