They support businesses with guidance and advice to avoid unsafe conditions. This will aid you in managing risks around workplace health and safety correctly.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This article will explain some of the requirements to ensure that your workplace is safe. For example, lighting should be natural where possible, and you should have emergency lighting in place.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your employees should be able to move around your workplace safely, which means both on foot and, where appropriate, in vehicles too. Floors should be even and not slippery. Handrails and ramps should be in place where needed, and doorways and gates should be made safely.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comfort<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your employees should also be comfortable. This means you must:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">maintain an adequate temperature (usually a minimum temperature of 16 degrees celsius);<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ensure there is adequate ventilation;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">provide safe heating appliances; and<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ensure workstations and seats are adequate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If there is an issue in your workplace, you must follow certain rules. For example, you must:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">immediately correct any dangerous defects;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ensure that you have put in measures to protect those who will be at risk where immediate correction is not possible;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reduce the risks of snow or ice by using salt where their presence causes a safety hazard;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">clear a spillage quickly;
